Blue Light Glasses for Kids: Stylish Protection for Screen Time

Getting a child to actually wear blue light glasses depends entirely on two factors: how much the frames weigh and whether they pinch behind the ears.

We handed these TR90 frame glasses to two kids (ages 6 and 9) who average two hours of daily tablet time. Over three weeks, we monitored durability, comfort, and whether the lenses provided a practical, shatter-resistant barrier against screen glare without feeling like a medical device.

The TR90 Frame Durability Test

Kids drop things, sit on things, and shove items carelessly into backpacks. We specifically wanted to test the TR90 material these frames use. During our three-week test, we bent the arms outward to nearly 180 degrees. They flexed easily and snapped right back into shape without stressing the hinges. If your child is rough on their belongings, these offer a significant advantage over rigid plastic frames that snap at the bridge.

Comfort and Fit

The 6-year-old tester wore them for an hour straight without complaint, noting they felt “like nothing.” The lightweight build successfully prevents the glasses from sliding down the nose during movement. However, the 9-year-old tester found them slightly snug around the temples after 45 minutes. While the flexible arms mitigate some of the pinching, parents of older children might need to look for a wider frame size.

Screen Glare and Real-World Use

The lenses feature a noticeable amber tint. When testing them against a harsh white tablet screen in a dim room, they effectively cut down the harsh blue light emissions. We observed a slight reduction in eye rubbing during evening gaming sessions. The lenses do pick up fingerprints quickly, so you will be using the included cleaning cloth frequently.

Accessories and Value

The included car-shaped hard case is a surprisingly effective feature. It gave our younger tester an actual reason to put the glasses away properly rather than leaving them on the couch. At this price point, getting a durable novelty case, a microfiber cleaning cloth, and a blue light testing kit adds excellent value to the package.
